Description

Tarot of Marseilles

According to current historical research, tarot cards originated in northern Italy around the 14th century. In the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, card makers in France, and particularly in the city of Marseille, adopted a common model for Tarot cards. This pattern, which evolved directly from the earliest Tarot decks, has become the standard for traditional Tarot. Widely known as the “Marseille Tarot,” it served as the basis for mystical interpretations of Tarot symbols, and as the original inspiration for new decks that became popular during the XNUMXth century.

Tarot of Marseille by Nicolas Conver

Among the various Tarot decks printed in Marseille, the one that became the most influential and popular was published in 1760 by Nicholas Conver. Founded in 1760 by Nicolas Conver, the Conver Factory became the Camoin House in 1861. That same year, Conver created the Nicolas Conver Tarot and published it until 1880. With such longevity, this Tarot deck is become one of the best known and most printed of the ancient Tarot cards, often being considered the “original” Tarot by reference. Since then, other older games have been discovered, suggesting that Nicolas Conver was inspired by the work of Pierre Madenié. Furthermore, he is the first carmaker not to have benefited from the classic apprenticeship from Master to Journeyman.

Tarot de Marseille CBD by Dr Yoav Ben-Dov

The Tarot de Marseille CBD (Conver Ben-Dov) has been restored from copies of several prints of the standard deck by Nicolas Conver. The lines were copied onto paper by illustrator Leela Ganin using an ink pen. The drawings were scanned, cleaned, titled and colored by graphic designer Nir Matarasso. Dr. Yoav Ben-Dov then reshaped the colored lines and areas, comparing them to scans of the original maps. The cards were finally printed in 2011 by Cartamundi in Turnhout, Belgium.

The cards are printed on high-quality card stock, with a matte finish, and feature vibrant colors and accurate symbols. The cards are lightweight and durable, with smooth, rounded edges. Each card measures 12 x 7 cm and is printed with inscriptions in old French (e.g. Roy d'pée, Reyne de Baston….etc.).

The Tarot de Marseille CBD by Dr Yoav Ben-Dov is intended for the practice of divinatory arts. It can be used to gather information on personal matters. His cards are also suitable for dream interpretation and can be used to explore psychological images and symbols.

Structure of the tarot deck

A deck of Tarot cards contains 78 cards. These can be divided into two parts. The first part is called the major color. It consists of 22 cards with elaborate illustrations. The cards of the major suit are numbered consecutively and each have a specific name.
The remaining 56 cards are divided into four suits. These are called the minor colors and have a simpler design than the 22 major colors. Each minor suit consists of 14 cards: an ace, nine numbered cards (from 2 to 10) and four court cards: page, knight, queen and king.

The pack includes 78 divination cards in their color-printed cardboard case, as well as a user manual. This manual explains how to interpret the cards and how to use them correctly.
